Maricopa County Animal Care & Control Needs Volunteers & Dog Walkers
Here a few guidelines to ensure a safe and rewarding dog walking experience.
Dress code- please wear long, comfortable pants and closed toed shoes appropriate for walking/running.
See a staff member in the designated area to receive the proper training,
Provide a driver's license and sign a liability waiver.
A staff member will pull a dog for each walker; walkers must be 18 years of age. If children are accompanying an adult, the adult must be holding the leash.
Hold the leash firmly with your hand in the loop of the leash. Walkers should maintain a distance of 10 feet between other dogs/walkers at all times. Some of our dogs are very energetic/enthusiastic, so a greater distance may be more appropriate for some dogs.
If you are given a dog and the dog is too strong or challenging for you to walk, return to the pick up area immediately and a staff member will be happy to choose another dog for you. Please do not trade dogs with other walkers.
Please pick up after your dog. Bags are available at several location throughout shelter gounds.
When your walk is concluded, return your dog back to the pick up location.
